Serves as a Budget Analyst in the Justice Management Division, Budget Staff, General Administration and Financial Management Group (GAFMG) in Washington, DC. The GAFMG Budget Staff has principal departmental responsibility for the development and execution of Department-wide program budget operations, performance, oversight and fund controls for over 30 program offices including executive leadership, components, policy and operational offices and their missions within the Department of Justice.

The duties and responsibilities for a Budget Analyst generally include, but are not limited to, the following: Review and analyze historical data to prepare budget estimates. Track the Congressional appropriations process. Perform budget execution activities. Interpret local budgetary calls. Perform budget estimation activities using predetermined formulas.

Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check which includes a drug screening.
  • You may be required to complete a one-year probationary or two-year trial period.
  • Selective Service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31st 1959. Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Budget Analyst at (GS-0560-9/11/12/13), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade you're applying to. If you are a current or former government employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. Additionally, please ensure to submit an applicable SF50 (please refer to the "required documents" section for additional information). Specialize Experience: For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-07 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service, which includes: Providing guidance on budget operation procedures; AND Preparing budget estimates. OR Education: A master's degree (or equivalent graduate degree such as a L.L.B./J.D.) or two (2) academic years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for a GS-09. Only graduate education in excess of the first year may be used to qualify. Specialized Experience: For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service, which includes: Performing a wide variety of budget administration functions; AND Developing budgetary or financial policies. OR Education: A Ph.D. or equivalent degree or three (3) academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.M. if related. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for a GS-11. Only graduate education in excess of the first two years may be used to qualify. Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service, which includes: Preparing reports covering the status of funds, expenses, or obligations; AND Applying various budgeting methods or techniques for forecasting long-range funding needs. Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service, which includes: Preparing annual budget for an agency; Preparing budgetary reports; AND Resolving budgetary issues or problems. You MUST meet all qualification requirements, including Time-in-Grade, by the closing date of this announcement, 10/30/2023.
