This position is located at the Gallup Indian Medical Center, Division of Nursing Services, Medical/Surgical (2 West) Department, Gallup, NM. Assistant Supervisory Nurse is responsible for supervising, managing, directing, coordinating, providing leadership, and evaluating the provision of nursing care provided on the unit. The position reports to the Medical/Surgical (2 West) Supervisory Nurse.
Duties

Assists in direct supervision, orientation, education, competency verification, performance evaluation, and awards/recognition for the professional nursing and support staff on the unit.
Assists in plan/adjust work assignments and operations to meet agency and organizational objectives, priorities, deadline, and standards of care with regulatory agencies and Indian Health Service requirements.
Evaluate operations related to patient flow, patient safety, productivity and unit specific performance improvement plan to maintain quality improvement and staff participation/communication in the unit.
Performs nursing care duties as needed to maintain nursing skills and clinical competence and expertise in specialty area, and cover nursing shortages.
Provide advice and assistance to subordinate personnel on work and administrative matters.
Participate in program, policy and procedure development in areas such as Quality Improvement and Infection control.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing. A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education , Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-09 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) Grade Level: In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or
At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-09 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience in providing direction, leadership, guidance, professionalism, supervision, and evaluation to the nursing staff. Experience with the hospital Performance Improvement Coordinator to assure compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) Standards. Experience in Evidence-Based Practices through maintaining knowledge of current trends and interventions of all aspects of nursing care. Experience of a wide range of nursing concepts, principles, and practices to perform highly specialized nursing assignments of advanced nature and considerable difficulty.
