Duties

The Transportation Assistant - Transportation Coordinator acts as primary contact to Veterans for transportation needs. Works with the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) Supervisory Mobility Manager for transportation workload forecasting, scheduling design, procedure development and quality improvement implementation, modification of processes, evaluation and ongoing operational flow of the Veteran Transportation Services program. The coordination of transportation function is multi-faceted and diverse. The three major areas of responsibility are: (1) Scheduling, Data Collection and Tracking Support; (2) Consult Management responsibilities; (3) Program Support responsibilities. They must have knowledge of clinical services, related software and programs as they relate to clinical computing and office automation.
The major duties include but are not limited to:
Performs work involving consult management, appointment scheduling and admissions scheduling;
Daily responsibilities include collecting, compiling and tracking data and statistical information in support of Veteran Transportation Service (VTS);
Performs a basic analysis of the data and generates a variety of reports;
Reviews documents, reports and/or applications for omissions and inconsistencies and ensures data entry is complete and accurate;
Enters pertinent information into an automated tracking system;
Coordinates service practices that decrease waits and delays for patients in all specialty areas;
Utilizes the Veterans Health Information System and Technology Architecture (VISTA), Computerized Patient Record Systems (CPRS) or SharePoint Consult/Request Tracking System in processing internal consultations;
Plans for, organizes, administers and directs how the work will be accomplished for the VTS program;
Planning responsibilities require consideration of support services e.g., systems management, operations, workload forecasting, review and reporting of data/statistical results of program/project studies, vehicle maintenance and repair, etc.;
Coordinates the day-to-day operation of VTS program flow, processes and functions;
Plans and provides support services in the following types of program areas: electronic records management; driver scheduling setup and management; space utilization services;
Provides advice to operating managers and supervisors on how provided services assist in accomplishing their missions and programs; and,
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full Time,Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position at the GS-6 level, you must meet the following:
Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Transportation Assistant - Transportation Coordinator, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Qualifying specialized experience includes performing transportation support duties such as coordinating connections/scheduling, documenting travel information; collecting, compiling and tracking data on a daily basis; performing a basic analysis of data and generates a variety of reports; entering data into automated tracking data bases; and planning and directing a program that provides support services. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.

Physical Requirements: The person in this position will be exposed to stressful working situations that require a professional attitude and collective reasoning. Subject to a high volume of work, the need for accuracy, frequency of interruptions and ever-changing demands due to program changes. Duties will be predominantly performed in the Veteran Transportation Service program office with intermittent trips to various locations throughout the Medical Center's catchment area both in and near patient care areas where there may be risk of exposure to disease.
