This position is in the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Field Organization, Northeast Area (NEA), Beltsville Agricultural Research Center, Sustainable Agricultural Systems Lab located in Beltsville, MD.
In this position, you will serve as a personal assistant to the Research Leader (RL) and other professional staff, coordinating a wide variety of administrative and clerical tasks essential to the program administration of the Management Unit.
Duties
Participates in program planning support work such as research project coordination, travel documentation, budget coordination/tracking, agreements, and purchasing/procurement of supplies and equipment, and human resources administration.
Coordinates research documentation reporting requirements and provides oversight for the process.
Completes requests for personnel actions and writes and/or provides sample position descriptions.
Responsible for the administrative oversight of various business processes, which may include processing financial, procurement, extramural agreements, property, personnel, and other administrative instruments for the management unit.
Screens all calls and visitors, answering most questions on established policy or routine matters.
Performs various tasks using on-line systems such as information searches on the World Wide Web (e.g., literature searches for CRIS projects) in support of the research program.
Establishes, maintains and revises the office filing system.
Prepares task orders for Research Support Agreements (RSA) by meeting with scientists to assess work and time requirements for the year.
Requirements

GS-06
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience applying established guidelines involving program or administrative processes; assisting with office administration tasks including coordinating travel, ordering office supplies, or receiving leave requests; and using word processing programs to edit documents.
GS-07
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience reviewing and editing reports intended for public dissemination; purchasing and procuring supplies and equipment; and coordinating conferences, seminars, or trainings.
Applicants must be able to type 40 words per minute.
