IT Specialists (INFOSEC) are a mission critical occupation for HRSA. These positions are responsible for the analysis of system and/or security requirements, the development and implementation of mission critical applications for the agency's Information Technology operations.
As an IT Specialist in the Division of Infrastructure Services, you serve as a technical expert in reviewing and implementing the ongoing systems operations and security of HRSA's network infrastructure.
Your major duties and responsibilities include:
Providing administration for HRSA's enterprise network environment in all aspects of network operations security to include Virtual Private Networks, firewalls, remote access, Network Admission Control, routing, switching, Intrusion Detection Systems, and network infrastructure.
Developing and maintaining security policies, and participating in regular system audits and certification processes.
Evaluating trends, forecasting requirements, and implementing security improvements; and configuring security information and event management solutions to capture data from all sources.
Performing vulnerability validation and remediation within acceptable resolution timeframes based on criticality.

Requirements

To qualify for this position, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have IT-related information security experience in each of the four competencies listed below:

In addition to meeting the four IT related competencies listed above, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of the minimum qualifying specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service.
MINIMUM QUALIFYING SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, an applicant's one full year of specialized experience must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for successful job performance.
Examples of minimum qualifying specialized experience equal to the GS-12 level include performing the following types of tasks on a regular and recurring basis:
Configuring and managing secure segmentation using Data Center switches that support both LACP and PAGP, such as Cisco Nexus/Catalyst switch platforms;
OR
Configuring dynamic routing protocols such as Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) to control and secure traffic flow with service providers;
OR
Performing packet analysis tools such as Wireshark to monitor and troubleshoot complex wired and wireless network and security issues.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
