The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Information Technology (IT) Information Systems Security Specialist with responsibility for security planning, coordination, and security during installation, testing, modifying, upgrading, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of network and server hardware and software systems on the Air Mobility Command (AMC) JWICS network.

Duties

DUTY 1: Performs services as Information Assurance Specialist. Expert knowledge of and skill in applying IT security principles, methods, and tools as well as in-depth comprehension of the overall IT security environment. DUTY 2: Provides technical guidance and instructions to users and other IT specialists. DUTY 3: Serves as a technical advisor to management. DUTY 4: Serves as liaison with manufacturers, professional organizations, and counterparts at other installations and services regarding available products and state-of-the-art technologies and advancements.

Qualifications

This is a GG-12 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-12 duties for the "Professional" work category are at the "Full Performance" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-12 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job. Knowledge of Local Area Network for SAP and JWICS security requirements and techniques for protecting computer systems from viruses, data tampering, and unauthorized system entry; and knowledge of a full range of IT security principles, concepts, practices, products and services (including systems software, database software, immediate access storage technology), and methods for evaluating risk and vulnerability, implementing mitigating improvement, and disseminating IT security tools and procedures for SAP and JWICS. Broad knowledge of telecommunications concepts and principles, operating modes, systems, media, equipment, equipment configuration, and related software systems, processes and procedures to assess and advise on vulnerability to attack from a variety of sources (e.g., espionage, disruption of services, destructive programs/applications) and procedures and methods for protection of SAP and JWICS systems and applications. Note: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency. Ability to apply methods and practices for troubleshooting, recovering, adjusting, modifying, and improving networks and systems to solve complex problems, provide support that minimizes interruptions in service to customers, and maintain liaison with industry and other activities to provide awareness of state-of-the-art technology. Knowledge of operating systems, associate devices, and the interoperability of systems sufficient to install, upgrade, troubleshoot, test, and maintain those systems; to optimize the functionality and performance of network and systems; and to ensure the availability, integrity, efficiency, and reliability of servers. Ability to communicate orally and in writing and knowledge of safety and security regulations, policies, and procedures. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.
