The Program Support Assistant (PSA) for the Mental Health Service Line (MHSL) serves as administrative support for designated Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP). The PSA works with all members of the MHSL and collaborates with staff, Veterans, and their representatives. The PSA tracks and creates reports various established data sources to monitor, analyze, and improve delivery of care. PSA also serves to support day-to-day business operations of the MHSL.
Duties
Major duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
Supports hiring/onboarding of new employees, residents, interns, students, and without compensations employees (WOC) in collaboration with supervisors, AO and behavioral health program analyst.
Provides excellent customer service in a professional and courteous manner.
Participates in and provides input in problem solving of operational issues or procedures.
Monitors and maintains office equipment and inventory supplies as needed.
Assists with the administrative preparation of documents and survey response for accreditation reviews including Joint Commission and CARF.
Involved in the practical and technical aspects of office administration including budgeting, supply management, purchasing, personnel administration, and file management by performing staff support and/or direction in each of these areas.
Performs time keeping functions for designated BHIP and others as needed using a VA Time and Attendance System (VATAS) and other sources as needed.
Serves as records liaison for designated BHIP and others as needed.
Maintain schedules for utilization of offices, conferences rooms, and clinical video telehealth space.
Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Physical Requirements: The work is generally sedentary but does require some walking, standing, bending, typing on the computer, and prolonged periods of sitting. Ability to carry/transport light items but no excessive physical demands are required. Position does require the emotional stability to handle demanding situations, challenging Veteran behaviors, multiple demands and a high volume of work flow. Position requires valid driver's license and ability to drive as needed.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Detail-oriented, able to work under pressure, prioritize, and carryout multiple assignments simultaneously. The incumbent must have professional knowledge of accepted practices in communications (i.e., writing, editing, and organizing for logical, effective presentation). Effective oral and written communication skills to provide instruction, administer special projects, and report findings to a varied audience. The incumbent must be able to extract information from various sources, choosing and using appropriate analytical tools and statistical methodologies. Mastery of established rules of grammar and punctuation is essential. Ability to analyze and solve problems in a positive, goal-oriented manner and to make clear well-defined recommendations. Skill in planning, determining priorities, problem-solving and organization knowledge of VA regulations, manuals, directives, VISN directives and hospital and clinic policy memoranda and all other VA publications as they relate to the operation and mission of the MTVAHCS facilities in order to respond to inquiries and set priorities. Thorough knowledge of mental health, the organization, and the structure of this organization. Knowledge of policies and guidelines regarding hiring and other HR related tasks. Position requires advanced skills in typing, Dictaphone, calculator, and personal computer. Incumbent must have skill and practical experience in using computer software programs designed to compile and analyze data, develop reports, and prepare written materials. This includes but is not limited to Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, Outlook and VISTA. Thorough understanding of customer service principles and team concepts is essential to the performance of duties. Maintain the highest degree of confidentiality in all matters relating to the performance of all sensitive aspects of the position.
There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.
