This position is part of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. The incumbent will be responsible for serving as a strategic analyst within the Strategic Trends Division. Supports the broad mission of providing operationally-relevant, actionable, credible, and timely recommendations to the Agency on mitigation or elimination approaches to anticipated future battlefield challenges involving weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and improvised threats.

Duties

As a STRATEGIC TRENDS ANALYST at the GS-0301-12/13 some of your typical work assignments may include: Responsible for the research, analysis, and presentation of threat trends (i.e. threat forecasting) focused on the next ten years regarding global research, development, and use of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) materials as weapons (i.e. weapons of mass destruction, or WMD), including but not limited to the dissemination methods and technologies enabling employment. Also focused on analysis of the application of existing technologies in new and novel ways in support of CBRN employment/dissemination. Monitors and analyzes the impacts of emerging science and technology (S&T) on weapons of mass destruction and the impacts of every changing geopolitics that creates the environment for WMD development and use. Presents findings to internal audiences including agency workforce, senior leaders, and blended audiences at workshops, symposiums, and other events. May also present analysis to external audiences including countering WMD (CWMD) community partners, DoD, Military Services, DOS, DOE, and close allies and partners. Reviews and assesses research white papers and proposals in support of contracted analysis efforts within the division to ensure projects support mission requirements. Participates in other in-person and virtual events to discuss and illuminate community approaches to future WMD challenges including strategic dialogues with allies and partners. Supports assessments of Agency efforts to counter WMD across the Agency itself and with its partners and customers, including the Combatant Commands and Military Services.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-13, if you fulfill the following qualifications: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service: Researching and analyzing global weapons of mass destruction (WMD) technology, or relevant technology fields such as directed energy, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, biotechnology, nuclear energy, artificial intelligence/machine learning, quantum mechanics, cyber, hypersonic missiles, or advanced materials science issues that have impact and applications to strategic trends Analyzing geopolitical topics and evolving situations supporting threat forecasting and anticipates changes that affect national-level strategic priorities, Agency operations, activities, and investments, and other requirements Developing decision packages, staff studies, briefings and recommendations involving significant and controversial issues that affect major aspects of the Agency's programs Writing and editing analytical reports You may qualify at the GS-12, if you fulfill the following qualifications: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service: Assisting with researching and analyzing global weapons of mass destruction (WMD) technology, or relevant technology fields such as directed energy, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, biotechnology, nuclear energy, artificial intelligence/machine learning, quantum mechanics, cyber, hypersonic missiles, or advanced materials science issues that have impact and applications to strategic trends Assisting in developing decision packages, staff studies, briefings and recommendations involving significant and controversial issues that affect major aspects of the Agency's programs Assisting with developing decision packages, staff studies, briefings and recommendations involving significant and controversial issues that affect major aspects of the Agency's programs Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
