About the Position: Serves as a Mortuary Affairs Coordinator, carries out all phases of mortuary services and assistance for the Casualty Assistance Center (CAC) to include Identifying Remains, Coordinating and accepting Mortuary Services from contractors on behalf of the Army, Coordinating the Disposition of Remains, and Coordinating the Disposition of Personnel Effects.

Duties

Responsible for processing current deaths of service members and their dependents. Process disposition cases, research and coordinate with appropriate offices (within and outside the organization) to obtain information about the death so that processing may begin. Serve as the contracting officer representative for contracts for mortuary services in the Area of Responsibility (AOR). Ensure that the specifications for mortuary services are included in the contract performance work statement for inclusion in the contract.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Performs 24-hour casualty assistance duties and must be immediately available to respond.
  • Employee will be required to work irregular tours of duty to include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing casualty assistance duties; monitoring and coordinating the retrieval and release of service member records or information for such uses as identifying recovered remains, or circumstances/reports of death; processing travel orders. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to DetailOral CommunicationOrganizational AwarenessWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
