The New Mexico VA Healthcare System is recruiting for a Health Technician assigned to Nursing Specialty Service, Specialty Clinic Section. The incumbent will provide technical and administrative task such as EKGs, ABIs, bladder ultrasounds, PFTs, wound care, x-rays, scheduling appointments, entering request for labs, etc.

Duties

Duties include, but not limit to: Update patient demographic information in VISTA as appropriate Perform technical task such as EKGs, ABIs, bladder ultrasounds, PFTs, venipuncture, wound care, ear irrigation, and monofilament foot exam. Perform administrative task such as scheduling appointments, enter consult request for specialist services, enter request for labs and x-rays into CPRS. Collect and process specimen samples. Work Schedule: The tour of duty will rotate weekly, one week is 0700-1530 and the other is 0800-1630 Position Description Title/PD#: Health Technician (Nursing Specialty Service)/PD10189A Physical Requirements: ???????The work requires frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, bending, stretching, pushing, turning and at times lifting heavy equipment and/or patients. Good vision and hearing are required to collect patient data.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. This position has an Individual Occupation Requirement (IOR). You must meet the following: Possess technician experience that requires application of knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. (This position is part of the series that range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists.) In addition to meeting the IOR above, you must meet the experience as described below: GS-06: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: setting up equipment for procedures; performing personal patient care; and utilizing an automated system to enter and retrieve patient data. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-XX. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education. There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
