The position is located in the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Office of Compensation & Working Conditions, Data Capture and Review Branch.
This position is inside the bargaining unit.
Duties
The BLS headquarters is currently located in Washington, D.C. but is in the process of relocating within the National Capital Area to Suitland, Maryland. If selected for this position, with an assigned duty station of the Washington, D.C. area, you will have the option to temporarily telework to the maximum extent, subject to applicable pay regulations, while the current headquarters is decommissioned and the future headquarters is being built. Upon completion of the new headquarters offices in Suitland, MD, you will be expected to report to the Suitland Federal Center after receiving notification to do so.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Will assist in the review of micro data for the National Compensation Survey and the Occupational Requirements Survey to ensure the quality and accuracy of the data that are feeding the NCS and ORS estimates.
Use established procedures and tools to examine survey micro data for conformance to data collection procedures.
Participate in microdata review activities occurring throughout the NCS and ORS production cycles and outlier review activities at select milestones during the production cycles to ensure the quality and accuracy of the micro data that are feeding the estimates. Work is assigned according to the production schedule and should be completed within the agreed-upon timeframes. Locates and tabulates data for research and production purposes.
Participate in reviewer meetings to share outcomes of review, possible issues based on review experience, and provide other input and feedback to support the consistent review of data across off ices. Assists team members in training and on-the-job coaching to build skills. Participates in team building activities.

Summarize and document outcomes of review, including trends, issues, new developments, and recommendations.
Identifies underlying trends and apparent discrepancies in data and proposes solutions; makes comparisons of wages, benefits, and/or occupational requirements data and prepares reports on findings.

Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
OR
Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
OR
Statistics, 1530
Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.
OR
Combination of education and experience-courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE
In addition to the basic requirements above, applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-11, in the Federal Service. This one year of specialized experience must be in or related to the field of economics or statistics and must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, judgment, and technical competence in order to successfully perform the duties of the position to be filled. This includes the following:
1. Developing and implementing solutions to improve accuracy and efficiency of survey collection strategies, systems technology, processing systems and procedures.
2. Developing techniques and procedures for resolving data quality issues, especially for critical firms.
3. Evaluating reported data for consistency within the company and for conformance to the standards for each BLS program
4. Reviewing and responding to technical questions from national, regional, and state staff concerning processing methods and issues.
