Duties
Serves as a technical work leader in the maintenance of appropriation accounting records for travel and transportation funds for serviced activities.
Leads the work of accounting technicians, distributes and balances workload; ensures timely accomplishment of assigned work, monitors status and progress of work on a daily basis; maintains records of work accomplishments.
Reviews source documents (i.e., PCS, long term travel, dual lodging, travel orders, etc.) to determine correct actions to be taken for travel vouchers prepared by military and civilian personnel for both international and CONUS travel.
Responds to questions from customers or co-workers regarding accounting data, discrepancies, and procedures.
Maintains comprehensive records for transactions and performs miscellaneous functions including typing travel related documents; follow up on recoupment letters; monitoring travel card usage, and maintaining travel related records and reports.
Assists in monitoring operations' compliance with established internal controls to identify problem areas, improve operating program effectiveness, and ensure and maintain the integrity of financial and accounting information.

Qualifications
Qualified applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-04) in the Federal service that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Specialized experience is defined as experience using standardized procedures to process recurring financial transactions, entering data into systems, and correcting invalid/incorrect entries.
Time-in-Grade: Current or former Federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks must meet the time in grade requirement. To be considered for the GS-05, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-03 or higher in Federal service.
Education
Substitution of Education for Experience: Four years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation, or the equivalent, is a prerequisite may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
