Who may apply: Current, permanent DFAS employees in the competitive service, eligible DoD PPP Military Spouse preference applicants and current DFAS VRA employees. This announcement will be used to fill positions with an entry grade of GS-07, or GS-08 with a target grade of GS-08. The minimum salary for grade GS-7 is $49,025, the maximum salary is $63,733. The minimum salary for grade GS-8 is $54,292, the maximum salary is $70,578.

Duties

Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates financial activities and conduct a variety of special studies for determining trends, identifying system problems, and effectiveness of internal controls. Oversees subordinate Accounting Technicians or, through subordinate Lead Accounting Technicians, oversees the accomplishment of technical work in accordance with policy, directives, regulations, and reporting requirements. Interprets regulations, requirements, and policies, including changes, updates, and automated systems modifications, to ensure compliance. Explains procedures and problems and takes corrective actions as necessary to ensure the accuracy and propriety of accounting transactions and records. Trains and assists lower level accounting technicians with techniques to correct and process accounting inputs. Responsible and accountable for assigned program areas including the development, documentation, and operation of both internal processes and administrative, technical, and automated systems controls. Duties will be developmental in nature when the position is filled below the full performance level.

Qualifications

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-06 for GS-07 level and GS-07 for the GS-08 level) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. For GS-07: Specialized experience is defined as: reviewing and processing transactions in automated systems; and identify errors and taking corrective action to ensure the accuracy of accounting or financial transactions and records. For GS-08: Specialized Experience is defined as: reviewing and processing financial transactions in automated systems; identify errors and taking corrective action to ensure the accuracy of accounting and financial transactions and records; providing leadership to co-workers and employees on financial or accounting support processing, policies, procedures, and functions. Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. To be considered for the GS-07, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-06 or higher grade in Federal Service. To be considered for the GS-08, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-07 or higher grade in Federal Service. GS-07 Substitution of Education for Experience: One year of graduate level education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required when it is directly related to the work of the position being filled. (One full year of graduate education is the number of hours the school determines to equal one year. If this information is unavailable, 18 semester hours will be used as the standard.) Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
