You will serve as a TRAINING INSTRUCTOR (COMBAT ASSAULT DOG) in the OPERATIONS DIRECTORATE (N3) of COMNAVSPECWARDEVGRU.

Duties

You will be responsible for ensuring the continued effectiveness of canines and handlers in patrol assignments and in the detection of explosives, weapons, and other materials. You will be responsible for the design and preparation of canine training course materials, lesson plans if required, and skills development training session and exercises. You will maintain an up-to-date knowledge of instructional techniques and methods used in canine training. You will be responsible for the development of course content and overall maintenance (e.g., updating and improving) of canine training courses (e.g., patrol dog course, explosive detection course, etc.). You will instruct handlers in methods of canine obedience and discipline, principles of conditioning and animal behavior, and the skills required of the dogs. You will give presentations to management and supervisory officials on the capabilities of the canine teams in order to gain support for the canine program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final TOP SECRET SCI security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: performing a wide variety of activities designed to train canines and handlers and explosive detection search and multiple other skill sets to ensure the continued effectiveness in carrying out their responsibilities.
