This position is located at Manhattan Sites in Lower Manhattan, New York. Manhattan Sites includes African Burial Ground NM, Castle Clinton NM. Stonewall NM, Federal Hall NM, Governors Island NM, General Grant NM, Hamilton Grange NM, Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace NHS and Saint Paul's Church NHS. Announcement will close once 25 applications are received or upon closing date. Park housing is not available. Telework is not authorized per the recruitment request.

Duties

The major duties of this position include: Operating heavy power equipment such as lawn mowers, portable snow blowers, and all types of hand tools (such as shovels rakes, lawn edging equipment, etc.), to maintain buildings, grounds, roads, trails, etc. Loading and unloading supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, dollies, etc. Moves furniture, removes and sets signs, paints picnic tables and signs, rakes and waters lawns, trims trees and shrubbery, picks up litter, and cleans fire pits. Digging ditches and trenches with pick and shovel where soil is hard and compact and must grade or slope; occasionally breaks up pavement, soil, or concrete; mixes and pours concrete, asphalt, and hot/cold mix; fills and levels holes in damaged roads. Moves heavily loaded wheelbarrows and hand trucks; uses heavy type power mowers including adjusting blades, cleaning and oiling. Cuts heavy trees with axe or chainsaw; stacks heavy logs, lumber, and sacks of cement, etc., or performs other duties requiring similar judgment and comparable physical effort. Performing janitorial duties for buildings in the absence of janitor and as back-up support.

Dexterity and safety. Work practices. Experience must be demonstrated in being able to perform the most difficult and complex laboring tasks, including maintaining buildings, grounds, roads, and trails; breaks up pavement, soil, or concrete; operating heavy power equipment such as lawnmowers, snow blowers and string trimmers; and safely using a variety of hand tools such as shovels, rakes, hammers, saws, rock bars, etc.; cut heavy trees with axe or chainsaw; stacks heavy logs, lumber, and sacks of cement; performing custodial/janitorial work practices and the safe use of cleaning chemicals for buildings in the absence of janitor and as back- up support. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
