The Mental Health ICC serves as the primary consultant to the Network Director and Chief Medical Officer on issues related to preventing suicide, improving Veterans' mental health, and addressing Veteran public health issues. Services are provided to ensure that Veterans have access to mental health care services, that mental health operations run effectively and consistently across the system, and that there is responsibility and expertise for managing clinical operations at local facilities.

Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Delivers all technical assistance and strategic guidance for planning and delivering national initiatives and community-based interventions for suicide prevention within VISN 6 in collaboration with the VISN 6 Chief Medical Health Officer (CMHO).
Oversees community-based interventions programs to ensure programs are being appropriately coordinated within assigned VISN of oversight and that they meet all VA standards in fidelity to national models.
Leads and monitors VISN-level suicide prevention community-based intervention implementation plans; tracks and monitors VISN 6 level reporting on identified suicide prevention outcome measures; develops and submits regular reports to the VISN 6 CMHO when necessary; develops and provides corrective action plans for areas identified as deficient in meeting established benchmarks.
Provides subject matter expertise for suicide prevention in consultation at the state and VISN level.
Responsible for the integration of national suicide prevention initiatives, efforts and education throughout the community by developing and organizing community partners and coalitions aimed at reducing Veteran suicide at the state and VISN level in collaboration with the VISN CMHO.
Leads, develops, facilitates, and strengthens suicide prevention partnerships, relationships and coalitions by connecting VISN leadership, facility CEPCs with national VA programs and stakeholders including, but not limited to, Veterans, Veteran Service Organizations (VSO), congressional staff, media, community business partners, and community members throughout the health care system and VISN catchment areas.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work.
Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found by going to SW Licensure Summary by State.
English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f).
Grade Determinations:
Experience/Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidates may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.
Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs.
Skill in coordinating and implementing one or more specialty program(s), across the facility.
Skill in local policy and practice development, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program as prescribed by the program handbook or national directive.
Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s).
Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to further program goals and enhance patient centered care.
Ability to provide the full range of supervisory duties including assignment of work to be performed; performance evaluations; and selection of staff, training, and recommendation of awards, advancements, and when appropriate, disciplinary action.
Ability to oversee the fiscal matters of the functions supervised (including fund controls, contracts, and equipment expenditures), forecast resource and equipment needs, and administer the allocated budget.
Knowledge of organizational structure and impact on program operations.
Preferred Experience: Suicide prevention training and knowledge.
