This vacancy is for a Lead Travel Management Specialist in the Office of the Secretary within the Travel Management Division, Office of Financial Reporting, Policy, Internal Controls and Travel, Office of Financial Management, Department of Commerce, located in Washington, D.C.
Duties
As a Lead Travel Management Specialist, you will perform the following duties:
Provide travel advice, guidance, and instructions.
Provide training on all aspects of travel, developing training materials and delivering presentations.
Provide timely, reliable, and accurate service and support for both internal and external customers.
Perform studies and revises existing policies and procedures to ensure the effective implementation and execution of the multifaceted programs of an organization.
This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Lead Travel Management Specialist ZA-2101-4 FPL-4 positions within the Office of the Secretary in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.
Qualifications

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
This position is being filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). The system replaced the Federal GS pay plan structure. Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band. Non supervisory positions cap out at interval 3 of the band.
The ZA-4 is equivalent to the GS-13/14 grade levels.
To qualify at the ZA-4:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the ZA-3 or GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as:
Reviewing travel packages for compliance with federal travel regulations and Department policies.
Managing, assigning, tracking, and reviewing travel analysis work completed by other staff members.
Providing status updates and presentations to management and other staff on various travel related topics.
Monitoring and resolving travel card policy, reporting, and training requirements; and updating internal Department travel policy in accordance with government-wide requirements.
