Duties

You will serve as the Deputy Submarine Safety (SUBSAFE)/Deep Submergence Scope of Certification (DSS-SOC)/Fly By Wire Ship Control System (FBW SCS) Program Director. You will be responsible for functions associated with or directly related to the SUBSAFE/DSS-SOC/FBW SCS certification of submarines. You will ensure that both SUPSHIP and shipbuilder instructions, procedures, processes, and quality programs fully comply with all requirements necessary to support submarine SUBSAFE /DSSSOC/FBW SCS certification. You will be responsible for certifying that systems utilized for certification work complies with requirements and supports key events (i.e., fast cruise, sea trials, and ship completion). You will organize, plan, direct, and audit the Supervisors SUBSAFE /DSSSOC/FBW SCS Program. You will prepare all SUBSAFE /DSSSOC/FBW SCS certification messages/letters for new construction and maintenance availabilities. You will ensure accuracy, adequacy, completeness and timeliness of internal SUBSAFE /DSSSOC/FBW SCS certification audits/surveys to support NAVSEA audits/surveys. You will be responsible for coordination, resolution and status of SUPSHIP and NAVSEA certification and functional audit/survey findings in a time frame to support final certification action.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Performing quality assurance audits and surveillances to evaluate and execute Submarine Safety (SUBSAFE), Deep Submergence Scope of Certification (DSS-SOC), Fly-By-Wire Ship Control System (FBW SCS) program certification.
