Incumbent provides administrative support and coordination in support of the numerous and diverse functional areas and programs within the clinic. The incumbent is assigned under the supervision of the Prosthetics Service Chief in support of all functions related to the day to day clerical and operations duties of the Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Section determining eligibility, preparing requisitions, purchasing items, checking in patients and updating medical records.
Duties
Administrative Support:
Receives veterans at the front desk and determines what is needed
Render decisions on client eligibility for prosthetic devices and review request for prosthetic devices from a physician
Issue items from Prosthetic Stock and post to the veteran's Prosthetic Record (2319) by using the Suspense record in the VistA system
Counsel patients and provide instructions to patients in the use of prosthetic devices or schedule appointments for patents requiring services from the Prosthetic/Orthotic lab
Inventory and Consult Management:
Review consults for eligibility and take action as needed
Sort and distribute printed consults to the appropriate purchasing agents for items that must be ordered
Assist with the Clothing Allowance and Home Improvement & Structural Alterations (HISA) programs by providing applications to patients
Purchase Requests:
Purchase minor items of DME and assist with the Prosthetics Service Card (PSC) program to repair braces, wheelchairs, and prosthetic limbs up to the micro purchase threshold
Review and check in packages in the prosthetic area and warehouse when requested and make the appropriate notes in the Vista System
Performs other related duties as may be directed by the Chief, Assistant Chief, or Prosthetic Representatives that are required to accomplish the mission of the Prosthetic Treatment Center
Work Schedule: 8am-4:30pm Monday-Friday
Telework: May be authorized for highly qualified applicants

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary, requiring some walking, climbing, and carrying light to medium-heavy stock items of up to 50 pounds. The incumbent may potentially, although infrequently if at all, handle equipment returned from veterans with contagious diseases.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: basic knowledge and skill in performing general office tasks, to include telephone skills, typing, spelling, grammar, and filing. Must be able to communicate well, both verbally and in writing. Must have basic knowledge of the general flow of patient care to be able to properly direct patients and their families to requested destinations; day to day clerical operations of the service, preparing requisitions, purchasing items, checking in patients and updating medical records. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4 years above high school (Transcripts Required). OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond an Associates Degree (Transcripts Required).
