This position is assigned to Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Support Branch (N921); Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR, N92); Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR N9); Commander, Navy Region Southeast (CNRSE), Navy Installations Command (CNIC); located at NAS Pensacola. Incumbent serves as the lead and is responsible for safeguarding the lives of persons at the assigned work area. Incumbent assists with OJT training, education, and general support at the installation.
Duties
A. Lead Responsibilities 70%
Leads and assists in direction of Recreation Assistant Fitness positions; including monitoring fitness center activities and ensures they are well supervised to ensure all appliable policies and procedures of Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) regarding the use of Fitness facilities operations are followed. Communicates these policies to other staff and patrons. Ensures recreation aids (fitness) perform their duties in compliance with established regulations and instructions that are outlined in applicable manuals and policies and reports infractions to the supervisor. Ensures that fitness center recreation aids rotate as scheduled and during assigned breaks. Provides relief to fitness staff as required. Monitors equipment takes head counts and observes conditions of area assigned to ensure a safe environment report discrepancies to immediate supervisor. Performs cleaning duties and leads other recreation aid fitness staff in performing of such tasks (i.e. basic janitorial services, vacuuming and cleaning machines) along with routine facility maintenance as assigned by Fitness Program Manager. Serves as the primary liaison between the activity, security, medical departments, and Fitne4ss Program Manager during emergency situations. Preparers accident/incident reports during emergency situations and immediately notifies Managment of all emergencies. Incumbent must inform the Fitness Manager/Coordinator and recommend closing outside NOFFS area until safe conditions prevail. Sits in on Interviews and recommends selection of Rec Aids and Recreation Assistant positions to the supervisor. Provides introductory orientation to all Fitness staff. May open and close facility and will serve as the Manager on Duty (MOD) in the absence of the Fitness Manager/ Coordinator.
B. Program Maintenance 15%
Ensures maintenance work for facility upkeep to include, but not limited to facility equipment inspections including weight rooms, group exercise room, basketball courts, and cardio rooms. Conducts and documents all discrepancies, work orders, and unsafe conditions. Keeps Fitness Manager/ Coordfinator of all conditions. Alerts the Fitness Manager/ Coordinator of problems with fitness equipment and safety issues when unsafe environmental or health conditions exits. Checks identification cards for authorized patrons and collects usage fees, if applicable. initiates emergency action plan and contacts medical personnel and performs first aid services.
C. Administration 15%
Manages customer service inquiries and complaints in a diplomatic and professional manner. Assist in compilation of time sheets, schedules for the supervisor and enters approved leave in the system in the absence of the supervisor. Provides input to assist in the evaluations of employee performance. Leads and manages staffing, supplies, equipment, maintenance and upkeep of facilities. Monitors cash handling in accordance with established policies. Ensures all recreation aid fitness staff attend continuous training programs and are able to execute emergency action plans in their areas.
Requirements
- Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
- Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.

- Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
- A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.

- Must provide a CPR/First Aid/ Automated External Defibrillator Certificate, Navy Basic Certificate, Star Service Certificate, and Lead Training Certificate
Qualifications

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Knowlege of recreation equipment and use in a fitness setting.
Knowledge of Fitness safety rules.
Knowledge of general Fitness facility upkeep and maintenance (e.g., cleaning, minor equipment repairs).
Ability to appropriately identify hazards or hazardous situations and identify a patron's need for assistance immediately.
Ability to conduct routine safety inspections of the facility to ensure they meet environmental health standards.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Ability to work with hazardous and biohazardous materials (e.g., cleaning agents and blood).
Skill in providing customer service to a diverse group of people.
Skill to act decisively and immediately in any situation which could result in harm to a patron by identifying a patron in distress.
Skill to tactfully, but forcefully, provide instruction on facility rules and regulations, and enforce them.
Skill to exercise control over a large group of people.
