This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U. S. Coast Guard, District Eleven, Sector San Diego, Command Center, San Diego, CA.

Duties

In this position, you will stand duty in the Sector Command Center (SCC) as a Command Duty Office at Coast Guard Sector San Diego, maintaining command and control as a watch leader over all Coast Guard operations in the Sector's area of responsibility.  You will serve as a direct representative of the Sector Commander and provide leadership and training to other military and civilian SCC watchstanders.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • This position requires a Secret clearance.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Pre-Employment exam is required.
  • Normal hearing and vision are required.
  • Occasional 24-hour watches may be required.
  • Some assignments may require the physical ability to drive to site.
  • A final offer of employment is contingent upon a negative drug test result.
  • You will be required to undergo random drug testing.
  • Be able to work 12-hour shifts (watches).

Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level performing duties such as: Standing watch as Command Duty Officer. Monitoring search and rescue cases. Monitoring law enforcement cases. Coordinating responses to marine environmental incidents, maintaining cognizance of security zone enforcement patrols. Monitoring response to marine casualties. Interfacing with federal, state, and local agencies regarding Agency operations. Utilizing automated information systems to track and collect operational information relevant to a mission. Providing leadership and training to other watch-standers. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
