You will serve as a DIRECTOR OUTREACH POLICY & EMERGENCY PLANNING in the Radiological Emergency Planning Office of COMMANDER SUBMARINE SQUADRON ELEVEN.

Duties

You will be responsible for all aspects of Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plant outreach, policy, and emergency planning. You will develop, apply and evaluate new radiological and nuclear engineering techniques, procedure and operations. You will prepare radiological emergency plans to ensure protection of shipboard personnel and the general public. You will provide oversight to NNPP emergency planning readiness training and exercise programs. You will act as professional representative and liaison to Federal, State, Local, and inter-agency officials regarding NNPP reactor/radiological emergency and all-hazard response planning matters. You will lead, oversee and evaluate the level of readiness for emergency response, including operation and maintenance of the radiological emergency facilities and support equipment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the level (GS-14) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: overseeing the operations/maintenance of a nuclear reactor/radiological controls program or a nuclear/radiological/all-hazard emergency planning program. Examples of qualifying experience include: Applying of principles, theories and techniques of nuclear engineering; nuclear reactor plant design, operations, materials, testing or radiological controls; identifying and evaluating radiological emergency program requirements; maintaining and overseeing the training and readiness of a radiological emergency response team; developing and implementing emergency response policies and procedures; coordinating, conducting and evaluating reactor accident/radiological emergency/all-hazard drill scenarios and exercises and implementing corrective actions; leading and implementing an in-reach program with military organizations and outreach program with Federal, State and Local Authorities; and overseeing the maintenance of Emergency Control Center (ECC) facilities and emergency response equipment.
