About the Position: **Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment.
This is a Security Guard position with US Army TRADOC Deputy Chief of Staff G-3/5/7 at Fort Eustis. Fort Eustis, Virginia is located in Newport News, between historic Williamsburg and Virginia Beach. The Hampton Roads/Tidewater area has all the conveniences of a big city with charm of small town and rural areas.
Duties
Security Guards must maintain a working knowledge of TRADOC’s emergency management plans and all associated security requirements, internal codes/alarms, and appropriate responses.
Conducts periodic parcel, package, container, and equipment checks following prescribed special procedures to ensure only authorized property is brought into or removed from facility.
Serves as an armed Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) for the U.S. Army TRADOC Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) at TRADOC HQS with the primary duty to provide protective services.
Responds to all incidents, provides written reports of suspicious persons or items; quells disturbances; and subdues combative visitors or staff.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- In accordance with AR 190-56, the incumbent must take and pass a Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure continued required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Incumbent is required to maintain proficiency, and qualify, in firearm use (testing conducted semi-annually). Failure to do so may be grounds for removal from the position and/or Federal service.
- Incumbent must successfully complete all required Security Guard training within six (6) months after appointment to this position.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Incumbent must successfully complete an initial and subsequent annual cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid certification within six (6) months after appointment to this position
- Incumbent is required to wear a uniform, and maintain a high standard of appearance, grooming, and hygiene IAW AR 190-56.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) performing access into designated restricted areas and intrusion detection system alarms using both manual and electronic methods (i.e., Electronic Access Control Systems (EACS)/Intrusion Detection System (IDS); 2) performing access control duties at access control points (ACP)/gates, parking and/or VIP visits; 3) performing duties as a first responder during emergencies, protecting and ensuring life, health, and safety. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
