About the Position: This is a Supervisory Research Interdisciplinary Position located in the Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory, Survivability Engineering Branch, Vicksburg, MS. The incumbent demonstrates a high level of technical and professional competence to continually develop new technology and research.
Duties
Identify resources that will be needed in the future (funding, technical skills, tools, facilities, and workforce) and acquire them
Provide leadership in developing and updating Branch strategic business and marketing plans that are consistent with Division, Laboratory, and ERDC plans
Encourage team building and partnering
Provide and allocate resources to execute the Branch workload
Serve as a valuable technical contact and resource for the Corps of Engineers
Conduct performance appraisals and other personnel management responsibilities
Strives to establish and maintain good working relationships with other agencies, interest groups, professional associations, internal and external clients, and team
members
Mentor staff for technical and management positions
Analyze proposals, progress reports, and final products for technical quality, consistency, and adequacy
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with DoD Directive 5500-7-R.
- Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the DB-03 (GS-11) level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Scoping and planning multidisciplinary research activities; 2) Scheduling, budget and resourcing studies of systems and processes related to developing new technology and research; AND 3) Working on research and development investigations using laboratory experiments and assisting engineering studies involving geotechnical and structures engineering and/or geosciences.

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Engineering, architecture, physical science, mathematics, biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, physics, geology or computer science.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-???????11).
This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project and this pay band includes the General Schedule equivalent to the (GS-12/13/14) for DB-04. To qualify for (DB-04) level, applicants must possess specialized experience equivalent to the (DB-02) or (GS-11) grade level.
