About the Position: Fort Cavazos rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio. Duties

Draft policy letters pertaining to the conduct of visitor control and/or badge issuing operations to ensure standard practices are applied by staff members. Determine suitability standards and/or vetting standards for access to the installation utilizing information obtained from the National Crimes Information Center (NCIC). Coordinate emergency plans preparation, such as, bomb threats, disaster plans, etc., with other installation elements and/or other agencies. Research unique problems affecting the overall security posture to recommend viable solutions to leadership.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has been identified for the Security Professional Education Development (SPeD)Certification Program.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • IAW change 3 to AR 600-85, alcohol and drug abuse prevention and control program, employee must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • A pre-employment physical is required.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes completing the initial suitability/vetting of all visitors and issuing identification cards for installation access. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Criminal Investigation, Criminal Law. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Decision MakingPhysical SecurityPlanning and EvaluatingTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
