Duties

You will perform as a Physical Security Specialist for an IMCOM Installation and is responsible for physical security plans, procedures and inspections as well as key control. You will provide guidance, recommendations, and assistance to Commanders, supervisors and employees concerning security systems, physical protection devices, Visitor Control Center and personnel access controls. You will develop installation physical security standard operating procedures. You will define, develop, and evaluate security measures, devices, methods, and procedures to protect Center personnel and facilities from external and internal criminal threats, sabotage, pilferage, and/or armed attack. You will insure security is considered in the earliest phase of new construction, modification to existing structures, and the design and installation of intrusion detection systems.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has been identified for the Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program. This is the Department of Defense (DoD) Security Certification Program directed by DoD Instruction 3305.13.
  • It is approved by the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs for use in the Army via the following memorandum:
  • Memorandum, Assistant Secretary of Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, dated 8 September 2015, subject: Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program.
  • The SPeD certification is the DoD initiative to professionalize the security workforce by establishing a common set of competencies for security practitioners.
  • This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.
  • Incumbent of this position may require privileged access to information systems.
  • IAW DoD 8570.01-M, incumbent must obtain and maintain appropriate Information Assurance Technical Certification and Computing Environment Certifications as required by the employing organization, within six months of entrance on duty.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Incumbent must maintain a valid state issued driver’s license.
  • Mission Essential Position: In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires work both inside and outside with possible exposure to inclement weather.
  • As directed, may be required to work other than normal duty hours that may include evening, weekends, and/or holidays and overtime.
  • Position requires up to 20% business travel.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Information ManagementRisk ManagementSecurity Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
