Duties

You will perform as a Physical Security Specialist for an IMCOM Installation and is responsible for physical security plans, procedures and inspections as well as key control. You will provide guidance, recommendations, and assistance to Commanders, supervisors and employees concerning security systems, physical protection devices, Visitor Control Center and personnel access controls. You will recommend initiation or revision of local regulations, supplements, circulars, letters, etc., falling within the purview of the Physical Security Branch. You will recommend security measures for the physical security upgrade of facilities, organizations, and activities on the installation to include implementation requirements and instructions. You will conduct physical security site-surveys to determine and identify state-of-the-art electronic Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and components, and technical security equipment, required for the protection of US Army Assets.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has been identified for the Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program. This is the Department of Defense (DoD) Security Certification Program directed by DoD Instruction 3305.13.
  • It is approved by the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs for use in the Army via the following memorandum:
  • Memorandum, Assistant Secretary of Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, dated 8 September 2015, subject: Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program.
  • The SPeD certification is DoD's initiative to professionalize the security workforce by establishing a common set of competencies for security practitioners.
  • Promotes interoperability, facilitates professional development and training, and develops a workforce of certified security professionals.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.
  • Incumbent is subject to a medical clearance examination prior to employment. This position may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
  • An appropriate, valid driver's license is required and must be maintained for the position.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain the physical security course (7H-3aD/830-ASI H-3) conducted by the USAMPS.
  • The duties of the position require Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) approximately 20% of the duty time.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R and must pass urinalysis testing as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
