Performs traditional nondestructive inspections of various forms of ferrous and nonferrous aircraft metals and engine parts that are processed and manufactured in the FRC by using nondestructive testing equipment and examination methods and techniques to perform inspections.

Duties

You will assist in the research and development of various non-destructive methods. You will perform traditional nondestructive inspection of castings, forgings, machined parts, test plates, welds, metal cladding, pipes, bar stock, flat metal sheets, airframe and engine assemblies utilizing NDI test equipment and chemicals. You will inspect for flaws or defects, discontinuities in patterns, interpret indications and documents flaws or defects in material and prepare reports on defective parts. You will work with subordinate inspectors to demonstrate proper inspection methods and may be required to work with trainees.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • May be required to work as a radiation barrier monitor in radiation areas where X-Ray is being used and required to wear proper monitoring equipment for ionizing radiation.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position requires corrected vision as eye strain may occur from prolonged work on small parts, near vision correctable at 14" to Jaeger 2 and far vision correctable to 20/20 in one eye. Incumbent must be able to distinguish color.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: the ability to perform common tasks including: Utilizing Traditional NDT or NDI of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, subassemblies, and components in accordance with specifications and directives; locating, identifying and measuring surface or sub-surface defects; operating NDI/NDT equipment according to technical manuals/directives for the particular type of test equipment; documenting inspection results; and complying with all required safety regulations.Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
