Serves as a Technician in the Manufacturing Applications Branch at Langley Research Center (LaRC) responsible for the fabrication of flight components, research items, and one-of-a-kind test articles. You may be performing in one of the following functional areas: fabrication of metallic components using conventional and computer numerical control (CNC) machining equipment, fabrication of ceramic models, or fabrication of composite structures or components.
Duties
Duties described below are at the full-performance level. Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
Fabricates aerospace components and test articles as well as install, modify, repair, and maintain equipment, components, and facilities.
Performs preventive and corrective maintenance, inspect and analyze physical conditions of equipment, components and facilities to ensure it is in reliable, operational condition.
Performs non-professional technical duties related to operational support, modification, updating, testing, checkout, and design of complete systems, or parts of systems.
Develops and implements processes for fabrication using new technology or equipment for NASA engineering projects.
Participates in the development of fabrication plans, documents manufacturing processes/procedures, evaluates test results and makes necessary design adjustments to achieve desired engineering results.
Collaborates with customers to determine the fabrication methods and techniques that will yield optimal results.

Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-10, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service:
Supporting the production of components, applying principals of fabrication and manufacturing tools, techniques, and processes within at least one area of engineering manufacturing specialty to include: Metals Machining, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Programming, Composites Fabrication, or Ceramic Manufacturing;
Identifying issues in the fabrication process to ensure components meet specifications; and
Developing procedures for manufacturing processes, testing, or equipment maintenance.
To qualify for GS-11, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 level in the Federal service:
Producing components, applying principals of fabrication and manufacturing tools, techniques, and processes within at least one area of engineering manufacturing specialty to include: Metals Machining, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Programming, Composites Fabrication, or Ceramic Manufacturing;
Resolving calibration issues to ensure components are within specified tolerance; and
Reviewing and verifying procedures to ensure applicable standards are met.
To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service:
Advising production or project team on producing components, applying principals of fabrication and manufacturing tools, techniques, and processes within at least one area of engineering manufacturing specialty to include: Metals Machining, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Programming, Composites Fabrication, or Ceramic Manufacturing;
Providing technical and authoritative recommendations on fabrication and/or modifications to mission-critical hardware; and
Collaborating with customers to communicate fabrication cost or schedule status.
