Serves as a Technician in the Manufacturing Applications Branch at Langley Research Center (LaRC) responsible for planning, estimating, scheduling, and expediting the fabrication of one-of-a-kind unique test articles. Has expertise in the fabrication of metallic components using conventional and numerical control machining equipment for the fabrication of hardware for aerospace and scientific programs at LaRC.
Duties
Fabricate, install, modify, repair, and maintain equipment, components, and facilities.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, inspect and analyze physical conditions of equipment, components and facilities to ensure it is in reliable, operational condition.
Perform non-professional technical duties related to operational support, modification, updating, testing, checkout, and design of complete systems, or parts of systems.
Develop and implements practical processes for the fabrication and use of facilities, new technology or equipment for NASA projects.
Participate in the development of test plans, documents test processes/procedures, evaluates test results and makes necessary design adjustments to achieve desired results.
Collaborate with project engineers to determine the methods and techniques that will yield valid test results and establishes procedures and sequences necessary to conduct tests.

Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service:
Advising production or project team on producing components, applying processes for fabrication and manufacturing tools, and techniques within at least one area of engineering manufacturing specialty to include: aerospace composite layup, automatic fiber placement (AFP) systems, composite curing processes, or knowledge of composite materials and properties;
Providing technical recommendations on test functions related to the fabrication and/or modification of mission-critical hardware;
Collaborating with customers to communicate fabrication cost or schedule status.
