This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Durham VAHCS, for the Ambulatory Care Service. The primary purpose of this position is to provide total administrative support to the Occupational Health Program. This position will perform clerical and liaison support for all facets of Occupational Health Program. Durham has a total of approximately 4,000 employees
Duties
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Coordinates, establishes, and maintains computerized systems using Vista and personal computer systems.
Recommends changes to software programs and/or manual procedures for utilization of the program to maximize applicability to Occupational Health needs.
Documents status of new hires and employee clearances. Enters demographic data into Vista and OHRS as indicated (staff, students, new hires, transfers, volunteers). Incumbent prints Cumulative Vaccination records for employees.
Serves as an alternate timekeeper for OH, and other ambulatory care services, providing accurate and timely documentation of timekeeping in VATAS for assigned T&Ls.
Maintains surveillance and medical evaluation records, notifies employees when they are due for evaluations, and schedules appointments.
Prepares, executes, and/or tracks program specific information such as tuberculosis control, blood borne pathogen exposure, worker injury, all medical surveillance programs, volunteer driver exams, and federal police exams.
Follows applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc., as set out in the computer access agreement that the employee signs.
Assists services, managers, and other personnel in their efforts to follow guidelines for restricted duties placed on injured employees with input from Coordinator.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Physical Requirements: Work is primarily performed in an office setting but may require contact with medical center employees or their supervisors in other areas of the medical center. Site visits to other facilities will be required directed by the Administrative Officer of Chief of Ambulatory Care Service Line, in coordination with the OH Provider.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Proficiency Requirement: Clerk-Typist, Office Automation Clerk/Assistant and Positions with Parenthetical Titles of (Typing), (Office Automation)
Clerk-Typist, GS-2/4; Office Automation Clerk/ Assistant (any grade); (Typing) (any grade); and (Office Automation) (any grade): require 40 words per minute typing speed.
GS-05 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Providing clerical and administrative support to a program or clinic. Experience gathering and tracking data and information; processing documents and reports; establishing, updating and maintaining office files and records. Utilizing software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, desktop publishing, and calendar.

Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-05 level.
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite (Transcripts must be submitted at time of application).

Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level.
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. (Transcripts must be submitted at time of application).
To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-054. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.
