Duties
Determines the abiotic and biological fate, transport, and toxicological effects of chemical compounds.
Isolates molecular structure and their notional compound influences.
Predicts chemical exposure parameters; estimates chemical physical properties; and makes molecular moiety comparisons.
Plans, guides, and conducts toxicology, fate, and transport assessments.
Performs Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationships (QSARs), making toxicological, fate, and transport predictions.
Requirements

- Up to 10% Business Travel is required.
- This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).

THIS IS AN INTERDISCIPLINARY POSITION AND MAY BE FILLED WITH ANY OF THE BELOW OCCUPATIONS.
BASIC REQUIREMENT FOR BIOLOGIST (0401): A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A. above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Basic Requirement for the Toxicologist 0415 Series:
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in toxicology; or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology.
Specialized Experience Requirements: GS 11
To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the federal service. Specialized experience
1.) Assist with plans to conduct toxicology or biological assessments; 2.) Provide assistance on the management of programs in areas such as biological or toxicological studies; AND 3.)Ensure compliance with laws and regulations dealing with areas such as hazardous, toxic materials, and/or waste management.
Specialized Experience Requirements: GS 12
To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the federal service. Specialized experience
1) Work independently with the evaluating/analyzing toxicological and/or biological data; 2) Conduct scientific studies in the areas of pharmacology, biology, and/or toxicology; 3) Participated/assisted in the development of in vitro and/or in vivo test designs.
Specialized Experience Requirements: GS 13
To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the federal service. Specialized experience
1) Provide subject matter expertise in evaluating/analyzing toxicological and/or biological data; 2) Conduct scientific studies in the areas of pharmacology, biology, and/or toxicology; 3) Lead in the development of in vitro and/or in vivo test designs.
This position will be filled as a GS-11, GS -12 or GS-13, at management's selection. If selected at the developmental GS-11 or GS-12 level, promotion to the next grade level will be at management's discretion following time-in grade requirements, training, performance, and experience.
Full performance level is GS-13. If selected at less than the full performance level, promotion to the full performance is subject to meeting regulatory requirements such as time-in-grade, training, and performance and is at management's discretion.
Education
