This position is located in the Field Operations Directorate, Office of Field Operations, Investor Program Office (IPO). As an Supervisory Economist, you will lead Economists who conduct complex economic research, apply such research to complex problems, develop analytical techniques for economic studies, and conduct special analyses of major economic issues.

Duties

Provides leadership and supervision on issues related to the economic analysis of the Immigrant Investor Program (IPO) petitions and applications. Directs the development of agency-wide economic policy and initiatives. Serves as an advisor to senior management officials and makes decisions and recommendations in the development of strategies, plans and guidance for the Immigrant Investor Program. Evaluates highly complex econometric modeling and accesses trends of economic activity across a wide array of industry sectors. Ensures employees understand performance expectations and standards, monitors employee performance, and provides regular feedback and guidance.

The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 10/13/2023. Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 10/13/2023. Basic Requirements: All applicants must meet the following basic requirements: (Must be supported in Transcripts from an accredited institution, Resume and/or Applicable Certificate) Degree: Economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Examples of qualifying experience include: (1) Individual economic research assignments requiring planning, information assembly, analysis and evaluation, conclusions and report preparation; (2) supervisory or project coordination assignments involving a staff of professional economists, and requiring the evaluation and interpretation of economic information; or (3) teaching assignments in a college or university that included both class instruction in economics subjects and one of the following: (1) personal research that produced evidence of results, (2) direction of graduate theses in economics, or (3) service as a consultant or advisor on technical economics problems. Experience in related fields that did not involve the use and understanding of economic principles and theories may not be used as qualifying experience for these positions. Special attention on this point should be given to certain types of work that may or may not have provided professional economic experience. The following examples of work require special care in such determinations: economic statistics; industrial surveys; management of individual business enterprises, including farms; industrial planning; writing or editorial work in economic subjects; and financial market analysis. GS-15: You qualify at the GS-15 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Preparing reports and/ or briefing materials on various economic issues, policies or regulations; Conducting economic research for the purpose of supporting and/or evaluating policies, problems and/or programs. Managing major components of operational programs and their support functions; Consulting senior management officials on the resolution of extremely sensitive and complicated issues.
