The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in Smithsonian Institution’s Office of Smithsonian Facilities (SF), Office of Facilities Management and Reliability (OFMR), Building Management Division(s) (BMD). The incumbent for this position supervises the Craft Shop in a BMD and reports to the Building Manager or Assistant Building Manager.
Duties
Sets objectives and priorities; plans the best use of subordinates, equipment and materials; makes assignments of work and establishes deadlines; inspects completed work and work in progress.
Participates with and advises the Building Manager on long-range planning, budgeting, staffing determinations, etc. Reports to supervisor on status of work and causes of work delays or problems and recommends solutions/alternative approaches.
Identifies situations, both within and outside the Shop, which offer the Smithsonian opportunities to increase productivity and reduce costs. Such situations may include skills realignment, cost estimates, equipment acquisition, income-producing possibilities, inventory management, materials management and customer relations.
Maintains close contact with customers, responds promptly to their inquiries and checks periodically with them to determine their degree of satisfaction with the quality of work being performed. Meets with customers at the conclusion of projects to determine degree of satisfaction with the finished product and the processes that interface with customers.
