Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.As a/an Writer-Editor, you will:
Work with staff for preparing informational material representative of MFH programs and policy on issues which may be used by the DAS, Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary (ADAS), the Director of PAO, and other MFH leadership to assess program effectiveness and ensure consistent strategic messaging.
Plan, develop, write, proofread, and make edits for various materials including proposed laws, regulations, and policies as directed by DAS, ADAS, and other leadership.
Review speeches, presentations, and congressional correspondence for clarity and accuracy of MFH programs to representatives and stakeholders.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-13 grade level, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
-Researching, writing and editing communication materials, e.g., news articles, reports, newsletters, news releases, brochures, handbooks, speeches, and/or Congressional testimony; AND
-Preparing reports developed by others for publication; AND
-Advising and assisting others during the writing stage; AND
-Evaluating the logical and effective sequence of draft and final report narrative; AND
-Evaluating the overall length and tone of draft and final reports based on the objectives, scope, and methodology of the inspection.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-12 grade level, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
-Researching, writing and editing communication materials, e.g., news articles, reports, newsletters, news releases, brochures, handbooks, speeches, and/or Congressional testimony; AND
-Reviewing published materials and making -recommendations on the content; AND
-Developing effective working relationships with a variety of individuals and organizations.
Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Time-in-Grade: In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-13 you must have been at the GS-12 level for 52 weeks.
For the GS-12 you must have been at the GS-11 level for 52 weeks.
Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
