You will serve as a GENERAL ENGINEER in the NUCLEAR WEAPONS SECURITY (NWS) DEPARTMENT, PMO SSP SHIPBOARD SYSTEMS (SPS of PMO SSP SHIPBOARD PROGRAM SYS.

Duties

You will guide, monitor and approve contractor Design, System, and Quality Assurance efforts in satisfying a variety of contracts. You will be responsible for development, production and sustainment activities for the advanced and deployed system hardware, software, and documentation under the cognizance of the Shipboard Systems (SPS). You will assist in defining Statement of Work, program requirements and specifications, and reviewing contract/subcontract proposals as requested. You will ensure contractor developed systems are designed, fabricated, tested, and installed properly and that the product meets high level requirements. You will participate in the development process to provide requirement analysis of allocated requirements to ensure they meet system specification requirements and are verifiable. You will coordinate program efforts in various disciplines including mechanical, electrical, software, cyber, quality control, training, and fleet documentation. You will coordinate and support a system level operational test in concert with stakeholders and with an emphasis on analyzing and recommending engineering considerations with respect to functionality, production, reliability and maintainability. You will ensure that problem resolutions, which may involve correction of a design deficiency, re-coordination of a system interface, or a variety of other actions, are identified, initiated, and completed as warranted. You will participate in Program Plan developmentS and updates, working groups, focus teams, and other forms of Integrated product Teams (IPTs) tasked with development, deployment and engineering support of SSP shipboard systems. You will provide command and branch regular status through routine reporting requirements. You will provide necessary presentations, complete assigned action items, and provide support to working groups, focus teams, in-house and on-site testing support.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: professional engineering experience in development, test, requirements, and installation efforts applicable to leading teams in meeting strategic weapons security system objectives. Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

OR

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above)

OR

Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
