Position may be filled as a temporary promotion or detail NTE 1 year by a current permanent Army Employee. Temporary promotions or details may be extended up to a maximum of five years and may be made permanent without further competition.

Duties

Provide guidance to lower level mechanics and occasionally trains military personnel. Test, troubleshoot, align, repair, modify, and install a variety of major components and related devices of complex system and/or complete operational electronics systems. Conduct tests to verify that equipment undergoing development, modification, or overhaul meet required parameters and specifications. Determine most efficient work sequences; identifies changes required to documentation and recommends changes in design or improved maintenance procedures. Troubleshoot to isolate and replace defective parts

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Business travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Obtain and maintain a NACI (T1) background investigation.
  • Shift work and overtime is required to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays or special situations.
  • Obtain and maintain the Associate Level Certified Electronics Technician certification within two years of placement into the position.
  • Successfully complete and pass pre-employment and annual physicals.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Electronics Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Testing, troubleshooting, repairing and overhauling of complex electronic equipment and systems; Installing a variety of major components and related devices of complex electronics equipment AND providing technical assistance and advice to individuals or groups of lower-level workers. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element)Ability To Use Hand and Power Tools - ElectronicsIngenuity (Ability To Suggest and Apply New Methods)Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Theory of ElectronicsTrouble shooting (Electronic Equipment)Use of Test Equipment: Electronics Physical Effort: Considerable standing and bending required when performing work at bench. Installation work requires bending, stooping, and climbing within and outside shelters. Required to lift equipment weighing up to about 40 pounds. Working Conditions: Normally works inside well-lighted, heated, and ventilated shop area. Work outside is performed in good weather conditions, if possible, but is required to work in adverse weather conditions on priority items. Exposed to possibility of serious burns caused by electrical shock, RF energy, hot components, and to microwave radiation. Subject to cuts, bruises, and scrapes from handling equipment and tools. Subject to travel as a member of a maintenance team.
