About the Position:
Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations. The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.
Duties
Select and operate a variety of test equipment such as analyzers, oscilloscopes, meters, and other common and specialized test equipment required to perform the assigned duties.
Pass on instructions received from supervisor to other workers and assign tasks to be performed by individual members of the group.
Lead and mentor workers by training and answering questions regarding work procedures and directives.
Ensure that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available, and that required stock is obtained from supply locations.
Troubleshoot, isolate, and repair operational malfunctions in complex electronic equipment and systems.
Determine approaches, methods, and course of action necessary to complete assigned duties.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Twenty five percent business travel or temporary duty (TDY) requirement on an annual basis.
- This position requires shift work and overtime to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Required to obtain and maintain the Associate Level Certified Electronics Technician certification per Electronics Technicians Association, International, within two (2) years of placement into the position.
- Successfully complete and pass a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Electronics Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common tasks of the position that include obtaining needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems that arise; ensuring needed tools and materials are available and working along with others setting the pace. I can demonstrate proper work methods and techniques related to the overhaul and repair of electronic components and related devices. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Efforts: Work requires normal color perception, close eye-hand coordination and body movements such as sitting, kneeling, bending, climbing, standing, crawling, stooping, and lifting. Frequently lifts objects up to 40 pounds. May be required to work in cramped and strained positions inside and outside vans, shelters, and on work-stands.
Working Conditions: Subject to the usual hazards associated with the electronic trade and work environments such as electrical shock; abrasions; burns; bruises; cuts; exposure to fumes, oils, greases, varying noise levels; and R.F. radiation. May be required to wear protective equipment such as safety glasses, ear-plugs, and etc. May be exposed to adverse weather conditions when working outside on shelters or van mounted systems. Is required to comply with all applicable safety directives.
