You will serve as a Materials Handler in the Material Division, Department of Energy (Naval Reactors) Material Office, of NAVSUP WEAPON SYSTEMS SUPPORT.

Duties

You will be responsible for warehousing operations (i.e., receiving, shipping, storing, issuing) involving components and equipment in four occupied warehouses. You will unload and process incoming material shipments. You will perform a visual inspection of items for shipping damage and technical violations and annotate any discrepancies identified. You will determine proper warehouse storage locations based on specific technical storage requirements of the material and maximum utilization of warehouse space. You will determine weight and cube of material for consolidation into truckloads. You will operate material handling equipment to stow and pull material and to conduct physical inventories.

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Forklift Operator License.
  • You may be required to lift items weighing up to 70 pounds.
  • You must be able to endure elevations of at least 20 feet.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as hard hats, gloves, glasses, and safety shoes during the work shift as needed.

I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex tasks including receiving, issuing, handling, preparing for shipment, segregating, storing, stowing, and documenting the movement and storage of supplies, equipment, and materials in accordance with prescribed regulations; assisting in conducting inventories; performing inspections of incoming shipments to check for damage and compliance with technical requirements; documenting discrepancies, damage, and technical non-compliance; reading and preparing shipping documents; using computer applications to maintain and produce required data; reading and complying with warehouse plans; determining proper handling and storage procedures; and operating forklifts and material handling equipment. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. B. I have the ability to perform the full range of tasks including receiving, issuing, handling, preparing for shipment, segregating, storing, stowing, and documenting the movement and storage of supplies, equipment, and materials, in accordance with prescribed regulations; performing inspections of incoming shipments to check for damage; documenting discrepancies and damage; reading and preparing shipping documents; using computer applications to maintain and produce required data; determining proper handling and storage procedures; and operating forklifts and material handling equipment. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. C. I have the ability to perform common tasks including handling, storing, preparing and documenting the movement and storage of supplies, equipment, and materials; reading and interpreting shipping documents; using computer applications to maintain required data; understanding warehouse layout and complying with basic warehousing procedures; and operating forklifts and material handling equipment. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
