Duties

Major Duties of the Position: This position is located in the Center for Character and Leadership Development (CCLD). The primary purpose of this position is to advance the understanding, sharing, practice, and integration of professional development, enhancing mission accomplishment for the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA). Incumbent uses knowledge of professional development to build curriculum, direct and execute programs offerings, and assess effectiveness. Fosters integration of professionalism throughout USAFA mission element programs through coordination with faculty and staff. As a contributor to the Academy's professional development program, the incumbent will research, assess, present, and publish refereed scholarship in professional development and foster the exchange of best practices internal and external to the Air Force Academy. Teaching: Instructs and mentors permanent party and cadets. Creates lessons plans, delivers content, and assesses learning of the audience. Develops curriculum and teaches permanent party in the Permanent Party Professional Development curriculum. Delivers well-organized instruction in seminar format in professionalism, the profession of arms, and character and leadership development. Teaches cadets in academic and military training courses and programs to advance the understanding, sharing, practice and integration of character and leadership development. Counsels, coaches, mentors, and evaluates permanent party and cadet education/training audiences. Research: Pursues scholarly activities and professional accomplishments through membership in professional societies and participation in conferences or other appropriate activities in order to maintain professional and academic currency in area of specialization or education including character and leadership. Develops and maintains associations with leaders in the field, both nationally and internationally. Initiates and conducts a program of research in character, and leadership that contributes to the body of knowledge. Prepares manuscripts and/or presentations containing the findings of research or scholarly study suitable for refereed publication or other distribution. Service and Administration. Supports the lead integrator for professional development; routinely applies subject matter knowledge to inform recommendations to USAFA senior leaders on permanent party programs and courses, including onboarding programs. Integrates professional development across the Staff and Mission Elements, supporting efforts to prepare faculty and staff for their role in developing leaders of character. Works with Mission Elements to facilitate linking professional development research efforts to institutional objectives and program goals. Participates in faculty governance by attending department and faculty meetings and serving, when requested, on departmental committees. Represents the Center for Character & Leadership Development (CCLD) on working groups, boards, and councils as necessary. Provides advice and counsel to improve quality of educational programs and suggest improvements.

  • The salary shown is the minimum (Annual) amount to be paid and may be set higher commensurate with individual's qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The Academy seeks an educator and scholar to support the professional development curriculum for the Center for Character and Leadership Development. Candidates must show evidence of sustained teaching effectiveness, research, scholarly, creative, and professional activities including publication in appropriately recognized professional journals (normally refereed archival), books, or monographs; discipline-related community service; and no less than 5 years of significant professional experience. Finally, candidates must show evidence of modeling USAFA's Leader of Character traits: lives honorably, lifts others, and elevates performance! Must have knowledge of qualitative and quantitative techniques and methods used to develop, adapt, modify, and apply models to resolve problems or define and clarify alternative solutions. Ability to lead teams; originate new ideas, projects, and methodologies. Ability to develop and utilize appropriate data collection techniques. Ability to communicate effectively, negotiate complex issues, and maintain good working relationships. ACADEMIC DISCIPLINES: Any social science or humanities discipline related to character and leadership development will be considered. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: In-depth knowledge of professional development methodology and delivery. Knowledge of a wide variety of academic and military training and education programs, policies, and procedures is highly desired. Experiences in building curriculum, directing and executing programs offerings, and assessing effectiveness. Coaching/mentoring experience is also highly desirable. FOREIGN EDUCATION:
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the educational requirements. However, you must show proof that the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying in the form of an "official" statement of U.S. equivalency from a Department of Education approved (non-federal) agency (i.e. AICE, NACES), who will complete a U.S. Standard of Education Conversion.
