Experience required for GS-07: You must have at least 1 year of specialized experience in providing assistance to CNC Programming Operators in the areas of programming, specifications and tolerances, and materials. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Education Substitution GS-07: Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For the GS-07 level you may substitute education for experience with successful completion of at least one full year of graduate-level education progressing toward a master's or higher degree that is directly related to the work of the position.
Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-07: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.
Experience required for GS-08: You must have at least 1 year of specialized experience using CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) software; interpreting engineering blueprints or drawings in order to create CNC programs; and performing practical mathematical calculations using trigonometry, geometry, and algebra. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Education Substitution for Specialized Experience at GS-08: Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For the GS-08 level, successful completion of at least one and a half years (27 semester hours) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Master's or equivalent graduate degree that is directly related to the work of the position.
Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-08: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education in excess of 18 hours (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.
Experience required for GS-09: You must have at least 1 year of specialized experience creating Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) programs using Unigraphics (UG) NX CAM software; determining programming methods and the sequence of operations produce the most efficient process and quality part; and defining engineering tolerances using GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
Education Substitution for Specialized Experience at GS-09: Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For the GS-09 level you may substitute education for experience with successful completion of at least a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree that is directly related to the work of the position.
Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-09: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education in excess of 18 hours (total semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.
Experience required for GS-10: You must have at least 1 year of specialized experience applying appropriate tooling and cutting data (Feeds and Speeds) based on a variety of factors, such as material characteristics, work holding or fixturing, machine capabilities, tool life, and productivity; and identifying cutting tools and work holding or fixturing required to create CNC programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
Education Substitution for Specialized Experience at GS-10: Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For the GS-10 level you may substitute education for experience with successful completion of at least two and a half years (45 semester hours) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree that is directly related to the work of the position.
Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-10: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education in excess of 36 hours (total semester hours minus 36) by 9.
