The Office of the Inspector General is one of the best places to work in the Department of Justice and is one of the premier inspector general offices in federal government. The OIG's Audit Division is seeking highly motivated professionals to evaluate DOJ programs and processes, to ensure the intended results, to detect and deter fraud, waste, and abuse of DOJ programs and resources, and make recommendations for improvement.
Duties
The Assistant Inspector General for Audit is responsible for overseeing the Audit Division and audit engagements that involve all DOJ programs and operations. If selected for this position, you will gain access to invaluable work experience as part of a well-respected team that is responsible for conducting audit, evaluations and special reviews that address DOJ high-priority and sensitive subject areas. This position will also provide some administrative support to the division. Formal and/or on-the-job training will be provided as needed. Duties will include, but are not limited to:
Knowledge of the theory and principles of management and organization including administrative practices and procedures common to organizations;
Ability to use qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques.
Ability to perform research (such as laws, regulations, or other program policies) for program evaluations;
Skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques to the identification, consideration, and resolution of issues or problems of a procedural or factual nature;
Skill in conducting interviews with supervisors and employees to obtain information about organizational missions, functions, and work procedures.
Ability to provide support and assist in studies of management techniques, processes, and styles;
Ability to assist in assessing matters such as overall effectiveness and efficiency; compliance with established policies, procedures, and government standards; and accomplishment of intended goals and objectives;
Provides interpretations, both in writing and orally, of programmatic milestones, accomplishments, and utilization of resources required for effective management, operations, and decision making.
Ability to coordinate with other team members and to advise teammates on project matters.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- You must be able to pass a background investigation and credit check and drug testing. You will be subject to random drug testing.
- You must be registered for the Selective Service, if applicable.
- You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Your application package must support your responses to the questionnaire.
- You will be required to work a minimum of 20 hours a week during the school year.
- If selected you must complete and sign a Pathways Participant Agreement and will be required to provide the OIG Pathways Program Officer with a copy of your transcript verifying continuous enrollment, GPA and grade requirements each semester.
- You must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better for the duration of this internship (failure to meet this requirement will result in immediate termination).
- The student will participate in an OIG-wide mentorship program.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a Technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school, at a qualifying educational institution on a half-time or full-time basis.
Must be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 or better (must provide a transcript and proof of enrollment/acceptance letter); these standards will be in effect for the duration of the internship.
Must maintain enrollment/continue education throughout the duration of employment under the Pathways Program.
Minimum Qualifications: In addition to meeting the Basic Qualifications stated above, you must also meet the minimum qualifications for the appropriate grade level, or applicable general or specialized experience, or a combination of both
To qualify for the GS-7 level, You must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a graduate or professional school, at a qualifying educational institution on a half-time or full-time basis and: (1) completed at least one full year of graduate level education (preferred in one of the related and accepted degrees identified below), or (2) bachelor's degree (in one of the related and accepted degrees identified below) with Superior Academic Achievement. This means the upper one-third of the graduating class; or a GPA of 3.0 or higher out of 4.0, as recorded on an official transcript, or based on courses completed during final 2 years of curriculum; or a GPA of 3.5 or higher out of 4.0, based on average of required courses completed in major or required courses in major completed during the final 2 years of curriculum.
