This position is located within the Iowa City VA Health Care System within the Geriatrics and Extended Care Service Line. The primary purpose of the position is to provide administrative technical support to the Home Based Primary Care [HBPC] Program Director, HBPC Assistant Program Director, HBPC Medical Director, and team members in HBPC, and serves as an information system operator.
Duties
The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. Major duties include but are not limited to:
Ensures that existing patient hospital medical records are obtained for review prior to Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) admission
Reminds staff of upcoming meeting, training courses, etc. designated as mandatory by the Program Director, Assistant Program Director and/or Medical Director
Informs staff of changes in office procedures and policies at the team meetings
Reviews all correspondence by the HBPC team members for any conflict with established policies/procedures and attempting to resolve the issues prior to presenting to the Program Director, Assistant Program Director and/or Medical Director for signature and/or comments
Receives and screens all incoming mail, responding to non-technical correspondence and appropriately routing all other correspondence
Exercises full control of the staff's travel to be able to independently schedule conferences, arrange travel and accommodations for those attending, and preparing minutes of the proceedings
Obligates all monies for the HBPC program
Ensures all basic office supplies and equipment are ordered through appropriate fund control points outside of HBPC
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (work hours may be further discussed during the interview)

Telework: Regular telework, 1-2 days per pay period. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: screening and directing visitors and callers to appropriate staff members and answering administrative questions as required; personally providing authorized information from files and records or advice on established procedures; determining the eligibility of patients for admission to the Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) program; generating a variety of materials for distribution, including correspondence, forms, statistical reports, etc.; using the necessary format for materials and assuring that correspondence is grammatically correct and error free; requesting office supplies and inventory forms; initiating computer reports, patient history, and all clinical information as it relates to HBPC patients; maintaining cumulative records on: program reports, routine data and information requested from outside services, policy statements, minutes, confidential patient records, medications and equipment, home visits, patient status, supplies, HBPC fiscal budget and phone consultations; and acts as the alternate timekeeper for HBPC staff.
There is no educational substitution for the GS-07 level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
