This position is located in the Duty Scheduling (PGSD), Schedule Planning (PGS), Generation Asset Management (PG), a division of the Power Services (P), Bonneville Power Administration (BPA). The purpose of this position is to provide 24-hour direct control of the hydraulic operation of the Federal Columbia River Power System (FCRPS) in the Energy Imbalance Market (EIM).

Duties

As a Physical Scientist, you will: Apply in depth knowledge of EIM functionality for energy dispatch to achieve FCRPS hydraulic objectives. Provide technical leadership to Lead Marketers, Loads and Transmission Acquisition Specialists, Physical Scientist Trainees, and others while on shift. Maintain a feasible Slice model simulation of the FCRPS that meets operational goals and Biological Opinion requirements for compliance with the Slice contract. Act as the primary point of contact to the Slice Participants for real-time technical assistance and expertise on the FCRPS. Develop new operational methods/strategies and define new system requirements. Represent the interests of Generation Supply in operational situations encountered during shift assignments.

BASIC REQUIREMENT: A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. or B. Combination of education and experience - education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: GS-12 A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience in 1) assisting in managing or overseeing an interconnected hydroelectric system or similarly complex system; 2) use computer optimization and simulation models to plan for river and reservoir operations; and 3) perform analysis of data to prepare reports concerning past operations. GS-13 A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) in the Federal service.
