This position is located within Prevention and Abatement (PP&A) (EP), Environmental, Fish and Wildlife (E), Bonneville Power Administration (BPA). A successful candidate in the Physical Scientist (Environmental) position will serve as the agency lead and technical expert on the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), and recognized authority regarding environmental land action liabilities, risks, and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.

  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • This position does not support remote work. You will be required to report physically to the official reporting worksite as specified by the supervisor, but no less than 3 days per pay period.
  • Selectee will be required to complete the Office of Government Ethics Standard of Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OFGE450e) within 30 days of employment and annually.
  • After employment, this position may be subject to periodic physical examinations, as prescribed by competent medical authority and at BPA expense, if exposed to health hazards.
  • A preliminary background check must be completed before a new employee can begin work.
  • Current Federal employees or other individuals with an existing completed background investigation may not be required to undergo another background check.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT: Degree: Physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR Combination of education and experience: Education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:1) implementing scientific expertise in the coordination or resolution of Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) issues; 2) providing technical advice, and leadership on the management of environmental liabilities; AND 3) coordinating pollution prevention and abatement activities with stakeholders. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience
