This position is located with Bonneville Power Administration, in the Generation Scheduling organization (PGS), of Generation Asset Management (PG), Power Services (P). A successful candidate in the Physical Scientist/Operations Research Analyst position will serve as the senior technical expert for Generation Scheduling (PGS) in the area of real-time hydraulic operation of the Federal Columbia River Power System (FCRPS).

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. For more information on the qualifications for this position, visit the Office of Personnel Management's General Schedule Qualification Standards. BASIC REQUIREMENT Physical Scientist Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Operation Research Analyst Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level [GS-13] in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: 1) Interpreting analyses of planning studies, processes and data to achieve overall system reliability in accordance with regulatory requirements and operational objectives; and 2) knowledge of system constraints, forecasts, operational objectives, and the impact of uncertainties to provide advice on analyses related to the operations and planning of a power system or similarly complex interconnected system. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
