In this position you will serve as the Force Support Squadron (FSS) Deputy Director, sharing with the commander the full scope of responsibility for managing the activities of the organization.

Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short/long-term priorities, prepares schedules for completion of work, and assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Directs the mission and establishes the goals of the organization consistent with Command and AF strategic plans, and works with commanding officers (or civilian equivalent) and other senior management officials of the installation in the development of the primary mission goals and objectives. Directly supervises the marketing function; ensures a five year marketing plan is accomplished and executed; Through marketing completes AF, Major Command (MAJCOM), and local surveys, and manages the Commercial Sponsorship Program, and works closely with Public Affairs to administer base-wide advertising. Establishes, revises or reviews policies, procedures, mission objectives, and organization design to eliminate work problems or barriers to mission accomplishment, promote team building, implement quality improvements, or in response to concerns with regulatory compliance and/or customer requirements. Responds to Congressional inquiries and works closely with union representatives on issues concerning bargaining unit employees in the squadron, and represents the Commander at group and wing level meetings.

  • This position has been designated as a Career Essential Position (CEP). The assignment will not be continuing and has an established tour limitation of 36-60 months as determined by the Career Field Team and Career Field Manager.
  • Employees must sign a Memorandum of Understanding including Selection, Restriction, Outplacement, Tour and Mobility Agreements as a condition of employment.
  • Employee may be required to work extended or other than normal duty hours to include evenings and weekends and may be subject to recall.
  • Up to 80% telework possible (must reside in the local area)
  • This position MAY be eligible for a recruitment/relocation incentive. Specifics will be discussed with the Selecting Official.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management positions located here. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-03 or equivalent to the next lower grade GS-13 in the Federal Service. Specialized experiences is knowledge of a wide range of manpower concepts, principles, operations, laws, regulations, programs, and practices; knowledge of a wide range of personnel (civilian and military) concepts, principles, operations, laws, regulations, programs, and practices; knowledge of a wide range of Services concepts, principles, operations, laws, regulations, programs, and practices; and practical knowledge of education, readiness, and budget execution concepts, principles, operations, and practices. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 1. Knowledge of a wide range of manpower concepts, principles, operations, laws, regulations, programs, and practices; knowledge of a wide range of personnel (civilian and military) concepts, principles, operations, laws, regulations, programs, and practices; knowledge of a wide range of Services concepts, principles, operations, laws, regulations, programs, and practices; and practical knowledge of education, readiness, and budget execution concepts, principles, operations, and practices. 2. Extensive knowledge of the mission, roles, functions, organizational structure, management, and operation of large organizations to provide high level staff guidance and participate in the development of goals, objectives, and policies. 3. Knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures related to developing, planning, budgeting, and coordinating activities, programs, facility programming, contracting, and customer interests and needs. 4. Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, Military Equal Opportunity (MEO) and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures. 5. Skill in managing the work operations of multiple organizational segments to meet program requirements, goals, and objectives within available resources. 6. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization directly and through subordinate supervisors.
