You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Nuclear Production Office, Operations Department of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
TEMPORARY PROMOTION NOT TO EXCEED 1 YEAR AND MAY BECOME PERMANENT
Duties
You will aid in coordinating investigations of equipment failures relating to Shipboard work, determining causes, and recommending improvements and corrective actions.
You will be responsible for ensuring the effectiveness and accuracy of all Production Department quality and reliability assurance programs as they involve to nuclear related activities.
You will be responsible for reporting investigation results to senior management.
You will assist in analyzing quality indicators to determine trends that would necessitate corrective actions in Shipyard processes and procedures.
You will provide training to other departments/offices regarding Quality Assurance techniques, principles and requirements.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying quality assurance principles, concepts, and practices as they relate to nuclear powered submarine overhaul and deep submergence applications;
Experience inspecting and testing, applicable quality assurance policies and procedures, the make-up of organizational responsibilities with major overhaul;
Experience applying engineering principles and applications, working with equipment structures, and a variety of engineering disciplines applicable to nuclear powered submarine installations;
Experience conveying written information in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience, using correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling;
Experience applying various methods and techniques for investigating, analyzing, and effecting corrective action on complex quality problems.
