Duties

You will encapsulate, remove, or dispose of materials considered to be hazardous (e.g., asbestos, fiberglass). You will select materials (e.g., tape, foam, polyurethane) needed to complete insulation projects. You will develop patterns, templates, or drawings using geometrical constructions and principles of triangulation to transfer the shapes and measurements to paper. You will use blueprints, drawings, or other specifications to construct insulating forms into desired shapes. You will interpret sketches and specifications to determine the type of insulating material to use.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain certification/licensing to perform the work or to use specialized tools or equipment if required.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid California driver's license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You must be able to become respirator certified.
  • You may be required to obtain and maintain a current license for the operation of Fork Lift, High Lift(JLG), and/or construction equipment.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Installing and removing insulation on heating systems, waterlines, fuel oil lines, tanks, ducts, valves, low and high pressure gas and oil fired boilers, and walk-in-freezers and chill boxes ; 2) Constructing containment area that will withstand the required negative pressure for proper removal of asbestos; and 3) Utilizing the prescribed methods for handling asbestos spill or dangerous asbestos exposure situationsApplicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
