Types policies and procedures in proper format for final review by Service Chiefs and Medical Center Director.

Duties

This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program. The program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides managers a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion. Work consists of performing a full range of standard clerical assignments and resolving recurring problems. Duties include but are not limited to: Receives telephone inquiries and provides proper information or directing the call. Prepares. composes. or reviews correspondence prepared for the purpose of obtaining or supplying information. Types policies and procedures in proper Medical Center format for final review by Service Chiefs and Medical Center Director. Composes and prepares a variety of correspondences related to administrative or clerical functions of the office. Performs other duties as assigned. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/06/2023. Internship Program: To be eligible, applicants must be accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis as defined by the institution in which you are enrolled. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Applicant should be comfortable and familiar with computer programs and functions, to include Outlook, MS Teams, Excel, Word and others. Must also be able to extract and compile data into reports and assist with other administrative duties. You may qualify based on education and/or experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-03 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Comfortable and familiar with computer programs and functions, to include Outlook, MS Teams, Excel, Word and others. Extract and compile data into reports and assist with other administrative duties. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the experience required. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 2 years above high school, if related. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond 1 year. Interns may be hired on a temporary basis with a not-to-exceed date of up to one year for an initial period or for an indefinite period while they complete their educational requirements. - Interns may work either part- or full-time. - A Participant Agreement must be completed and signed to set forth the expectations for the internship- The Intern's job may be related to their academic career goals or field of study. - Within 120 days of successful completion of the internship Program (640 hours), the intern may be converted to a career/ career-conditional position (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-4 years). Students working in agencies through third-party intern providers may count up to 320 of the hours they work toward the 640-hour requirement. (See 362.204c). Time spent under previous Internship Program appointments may count towards required work experience hours. - To be eligible for conversion, interns must complete their degree or certificate requirements, meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted, meet agency specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement, and perform their job successfully. - You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: ClericalComputer SkillsCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, sitting comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books.
